Healing the Hood was created to present solutions and connect youth to vital resources aimed at ending the spread of youth violence, HIV/AIDS, STI’s, Suicide and other chronic illnesses.
According to event creator Carlos Meyers, Executive Director of Beyond Care Inc.,”It is vital that we as a community collectively step up to the plate and answer the cry’s for help from our youth. As a community we must respond to the crisis our children face everyday in urban and rural America with the same fervor that we responded to the Haitian disaster, we cannot wait on Washinghton, DC to solve the problems in our communities, we must do something now. So often we sit by and allow the dire pictures painted by the media to go unchecked without ever showing positive stories like Teen Test Day were youth and community allies come together by the hundreds to stand against Violence and HIV.”
Health Screenings/Services on site include FREE and CONFIDENTIAL TESTING, SCREENINGS AND COUNSELING in the following areas:
HIV Antibody Test, STD, Blood Pressure Screening, Gonorrhea & Chlamydia, Diabetes Screening, Hypertension, Asthma, Cholesterol, Body Weight/Obesity Prevention, Dental Exams, Stroke Screening, Spinal Health Screenings, LGBTQ, Latino Youth Health, Youth Depression/Suicide Prevention, Teen Dating Violence, Financial Aid assistance and HIV Workshops, Pregnancy Test, Counseling For STD’S (Bilingual Counselors Available) and HIV and STD Anonymous Hotline.
