You’ve identified goals, even the actions needed to accomplish them. So how do you stay inspired to actually achieve them? Enter the vision board, a seemingly simple yet powerful visual tool to keep you inspired about a goal or idea. Vision boards aren’t new. Think Instagram, Pinterest and even mix tapes, if you’re not afraid to date yourself! A vision board serves as a source of inspiration for your biggest and most important life goals.
Here's a step-by-step guide to make your own vision board and—better yet—make it great:
1. Get Clear
If you haven’t developed the goals that compel you, spend some time doing so. Your vision board should inspire you, but you can’t pull that vision together without fully understanding what you want to accomplish. Think deeply about any and all areas of life: work, family, health and wellness, finances, friends and so on. Use the S.M.A.R.T. method to create your goals. They should be:
2. Get Inspired
Think about what will be possible when your goals are accomplished. Will achieving your goals bring happiness, peace, gratitude, satisfaction, joy and/or laughter to you or others? Imagine having reached your goal and how that will feel. This allows you to get in touch with the inspiration behind the goal. Your vision board will be a reflection of your inspiration.
3. Get Imaginative
The next step is not only going to help you create a vision board; it may help de-clutter your home! Grab old magazines and start looking for words and images that speak to your goal’s inspiration. Take it one goal at a time; it’s easier that way. Once you find something that resonates, cut it out and put it aside.
Note: Create vision boards virtually via any number of apps, like Vision Board Pro or Abundance Pak. Just keep in mind that your vision board should regularly inspire you, so make sure you can display it in a way it will be visible daily without having to look for it.
4. Get Creative
Once you have your images and words selected and cut out, the real fun begins. Arrange them on a poster board (or your screen if using an app) in a way that reminds you of your goals and your inspiration. Then be sure to hang or place your vision board in a place where your eyes will catch it on a daily basis.
Now that you know how to make a vision board, what are you waiting for? Get busy moving toward those goals!
