“There is only one life I’ve been given and I don’t want to spend one more day in pain and depression when I know I don’t have to. My spine is a living thing and serves a very special purpose... keeping me healthy; medication-free and pain-free.”
It only took a few minutes for an otherwise ordinary evening to turn into a lifetime of struggle with pain and depression. I had just left my young son to spend the night with his grandparents across town in Virginia Beach. I was two blocks from home when a drunk driver slammed into my driver’s side with such force that my car flipped and landed on its side. It took the Jaws of Life to pry off the top. I was lifted out on a body board, taken to the hospital, x-rayed and then discharged when nothing appeared to be broken. At home I could barely move without pain and ended up with a hand full of prescriptions and appointments for physical therapy. That was in 1993.
I moved to Tennessee and for the next 10 years went to physical therapy and lived in pain because the medical doctors couldn’t find an explanation for the cause. I finally stopped going to physical therapy. I then saw a series of neurologists, endocrinologists, rheumatologists and orthopedic surgeons. Each prescribed a new medication that I was unable to take because they all caused dangerous side effects and allergic reactions. I was immobilized by excruciating migraines that would leave me exhausted for days. On one of my visits to a new doctor, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, which he said was more than likely triggered by the accident years earlier. I was then prescribed an antidepressant for depression.
For the next five years, I dragged myself through life and college in a complete fog of pain. After I graduated I decided to move to Lexington, Kentucky to get a new lease on life. One day my sister and mother came bubbling home with an announcement that they were approached by a chiropractor at a theater and were excited that they were going to receive care from him. I was encouraged to apply for a job with the same chiropractic company (Chiro One). I applied and was hired as a chiropractic assistant. The first adjustment I received was from Dr. Nick while I was training in Hamburg. When he announced, “Now your lights are turned on,” I was amazed beyond words. Every day I wanted another adjustment because I felt different, happier, and excited. I then went to Chiro One of Beaumont and started working with Dr. Christian for sometimes 10 to 12 hours a day saving lives. I kept waiting for the migraines or fibromyalgia to come back and take away my ability to work. Sometimes they would come on and I would run to Dr. Christian and he would adjust me and speak positively about my health and encourage me to let go of the old way of thinking. I have never been able to stand on my feet for more than 30 minutes at a time but now I can for 12 hours at a time. Unbelievable! I tell everyone about Chiro One and how it has saved my life. I owe my health to the care and love I receive from my Chiro One family.
