Chiro One founding partner and treating chiropractor, Dr. Mark Lagerkvist, D.C., practices alongside Dr. Jessica Cho in our Schaumburg East office. He grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin and still lives there today, but commutes to Chicagoland to pursue his passion, chiropractic.
A difficult experience during college led Dr. Mark to his chiropractic career. While attending University of Wisconsin on a swimming scholarship, Dr. Mark traveled the country as a competitive swimmer. During intense training in his freshman year, he began to notice a loss of sensation in his left arm, from his shoulder to his fingertips. As his condition worsened, Dr. Mark began to seek out medical help and ended up trying 15 different anti-inflammatory drugs—and not only did nothing work, but he was becoming chronically ill.
He continued to practice on the team, but his condition only worsened. After being told he needed to have a rib surgically removed to make room for nerves, arteries and veins, Dr. Mark desperately sought a second opinion. But after hearing the same thing from many doctors and specialists, he had the surgery, only to find himself extremely depressed when the surgery failed to fix the problem. He eventually lost his scholarship and no longer swam competitively. When it seemed like there was no hope, someone recommended chiropractic and his life changed when he met his doctor, Dr. Beyler. Within the first couple of adjustments, Dr. Beyler temporarily restored the blood and nerve flow in Dr. Mark’s arm. From then on, Dr. Mark knew his calling was chiropractic and he has devoted himself to saving people’s lives, just as Dr. Beyler saved his.
Dr. Mark received a degree in communication arts and public address from the University of Wisconsin Madison and went on to earn his doctorate of chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic where he was the editor of the Palmer Beacon and President of the Wisconsin Club.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Mark enjoys time with his wife and four children. His favorite quote is from Henry David Thoreau, "The path of least resistance leads to crooked rivers and crooked men."
